Ms. Davis' knowledge, compassion and expertise in guiding students through the college or boarding school planning process and helping them develop their academic and personal potential developed as a result of her years of work in education and her own personal commitment to ethical and professional educational counseling and consulting.
A graduate of Yale with a simultaneous BA and MA, Ms. Davis began her career in education as a Cultural Anthropologist, conducting research among a variety of educational programs, such as those for Jewish adolescents, for young impoverished mothers, or for medical professionals. Her research, in both Bolivia and the U.S., provided her with opportunities to work with a wide range of "students" and educators to facilitate better learning programs that addressed the specific backgrounds and needs of the stakeholders. During that time, while teaching undergraduates at Stanford and interviewing applicants to her alma mater, she discovered her passion for advising young adults in career and educational planning.
With a Master's degree in School Counseling, the highly regarded UCLA Certificate in College Counseling, and designation as one of less than two hundred Certified Educational Planners in the country, Ms. Davis has developed comprehensive college readiness and educational planning programs in public and private high schools and has helped hundreds of students and families navigate the admissions process on both the seconday and post-secondary levels. Her commitment to providing personalized, respectful and compassionate assistance to all students has made her a trusted advisor and counselor, as well as a respected speaker and mentor.
Her own love of learning and dedication to providing the most up-to-date information to her clients means that Ms. Davis stays abreast of all new developments in college and boarding school admissions and financial aid through additional graduate coursework in educational planning, professional development conferences and events, and meetings with admissions professionals and other colleagues, consultants and counselors. She has visited well over two hundred colleges and with more than 100 boarding schools and admissions directors throughout the country and continues to visit approximately 20-30 colleges and boarding schools each year. In order to expand her own knowledge base and methods of working with students, Ms. Davis has completed additional graduate work and supplemental study in special education and gifted education. Currently, she is developing expertise in assisting home-schooling families with college applications, and has recently expanded her practice to include traditional boarding schools and area day schools.
To ensure that her clients benefit from the widest knowledge base and the most ethical and professional conduct, Ms. Davis is actively involved in the premier professional organizations in the field, as a Professional Member in the Independent Educational Consultants Association, the National Association for College Admission Counseling, the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners, the Higher Education Consultants Association, the Secondary School Admissions Test Board, the Small Boarding Schools Association, the Learning Disabilities Association of America and the National Association for Gifted Children.
In addition to offering one-on-one services to students, Ms. Davis is available to speak to groups, schools, and organizations about the college planning process. She is also available to provide corporate work-life solutions for employees with college-bound children. In order to provide the most thorough service to her clients, Ms. Davis accepts a limited number of students each year.
